In a battle of stellar sophomores, it was Chase County came away with a 52-39 victory in the girls contest on our featured area game of the week.
Chase County’s Madelyn Wilson and MDCV Akrya Traver traded blows throughout the contest.
Chase County opened with a man-man defense initially, in which the first quarter ended with the score tied at 14. MDCV would struggle against a zone defense in the second quarter, only scoring two points. Chase County led 23-16 at the mid-game break.
Traver would ignite once again for 10 points in the third quarter to draw the game back to 33-32 heading into the last frame.
Head Coach Clayton Happy switched to a box and one to slow down Traver which allowed his team to pull away for the victory.
Chase County was led in scoring by Wilson by 19, Traver led all scorers with 23.
In the boys game, Chase County started slow before going on a 21-0 run midway through the first quarter, into the second. Chase County never looked back, winning 61-26.
Head Coach Cade Witte liked a well-balanced attack for Chase County, as Wyatt Griffin led all scorers with 15, and Tag Groh added 10.
Landon Traver led MDCV with 11.
Chase County travels to Waverly on Friday, and will be the area game of the week on Country 101.7.
