A recent grant award through the Jones Testamentary Trust will mean significant updates for USD 456 Marais des Cygnes Valley’s library facilities.
The district announced last week it has received $65,000 from the Jones Trust which will allow 456 to move forward with its library modernization project. According to a news release from the district, USD 456 has “fallen behind in its effort to provide reading materials to students that are recent, relevant, and engaging” in recent years.
Additionally, the district’s catalog system has become outdated and the library facilities have begun to deteriorate due to their age. With Jones Grant, the district is planning to add 2,000 “current books” to its collection covering a variety of genres including:
400 primary reading books
100 elementary graphic novels
100 elementary biography books
300 elementary fiction books
300 elementary non-fiction books
150 secondary graphic novels
100 secondary biography books
500 secondary fiction books
300 secondary non-fiction books
Additional plans include an updated catalog system, new assorted furniture, facility updates and new supplies.
