Court processes have started for the juvenile accused of setting fire to an Emporia greenhouse twice last month.
Assistant Lyon County Attorney Meghan Morgan says Justin Hines, age 17, faces two counts of arson after fires Jan. 17 and Jan. 22 that heavily damaged Moore’s Greenhouse outside Guion’s Showcase at 2023 West Sixth. The second fire also caused exterior damage to the northwest corner of the Guion’s building.
Neither Emporia Fire nor Emporia Police named Hines as part of a news release from Fire Marshal Reason Bradford on Monday. The decision by the County Attorney’s Office resembles the decision to name Arlo Feuillerat after an incident involving a BB gun at Emporia High last year, as well as related lockdowns at several nearby schools and an aggravated assault charge. Feuillerat later accepted a plea involving a count of misdemeanor assault.
Hines was arrested this past Thursday. A detention center in the Hines case was held Friday. The next hearing is at 2 pm Feb. 13 in Lyon County District Court.
