Are you or your kids sounding a lot like this these days?
If so, you’re not alone. Winter illnesses remain prevalent locally, according to Newman Regional Health Infection Prevention Nurse Patricia Parks.
As of the week ending Jan. 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated Kansas with low flu activitiy — but neighboring states like Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma all had moderate to high activity. COVID-19 activity is low areawide, according to the CDC’s tracking map as based on new hospital admissions rates per 100,000 people. RSV is continuing, although infection rates dropped across Kansas through January.
Flu season will likely continue into March and could continue into April, while COVID-19 activity ebbs and flows through the year. Regardless, Parks is encouraging good hand-washing and coughing into your elbow to reduce the immediate spread of any illnesses you may be suffering from. She also says it’s not too late to get vaccinated, especially for COVID-19.
