Saying there needs to be a renewed emphasis on actual farm matters in the next Farm Bill, US Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas is urging fellow lawmakers to re-emphasize crop insurance whenever the next package is approved.
Marshall was a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday. The current Farm Bill was set to expire last year but was extended to Sept. 30. Marshall says there is still a long way to go before a Farm Bill is in position for approval.
Marshall has been busy with other ag-related matters. He recently introduced what’s called the Fair and Accurate Ingredient Representation on Labels Act, shortened down to FAIR Labels Act. Marshall says it’s designed to increase transparency and clarify label requirements — specially for plant-protein and cell-cultured protein products. He has also joined fellow Republicans in the Senate in introducing a bill to get more information about foreign ownership of ag land in the United States, saying China is making more efforts to buy land near US military or national security operations.
