Over the past several years, Newman Regional Health has received a lot of awards just through the work of its Women’s Life Center.
The most recent was announced last month when the hospital was named as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Maternity Plus facility. On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Women’s Life Center Director Bobby Johnson said it’s a team effort involving nurses, anesthesia, surgeons and other providers. She also says the hospital has to provide a lot of information to Blue Cross Blue Shield in the process.
Chief Nursing Officer Heather Aylward says there is an increasing emphasis on postpartum care through the Kansas Perinatal Institute, and the hospital has responded.
Events and Marketing Coordinator Saylor Middleton says the nursing staff and providers deserve the honor.
There are a handful of hospitals across Kansas with the “plus” designation, but Newman Regional Health is the only Critical Access hospital with that distinction. Meanwhile, the hospital has been named as a Birthing-Friendly Hospital by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Over the last two to three years, it has also been named as a High 5 for Mom & Baby Premier facility, a Certified Safe Sleep Hospital through Cribs for Kids and a Best of the Best Newborn Screening distinction through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
