The Emporia State baseball team split their Saturday double header with the Colorado School of Mines to win the series three games to one Saturday. ESU won the first game 2-0 with both runs coming in the sixth inning of the seven inning game. Patryk Hernandez doubled in a run before Mason Sturdy had a sacrifice fly for the Hornets. Ian Lanik (1-0) went the distance allowing just one hit in a seven-inning complete game shutout. Mines found their bats in the final game of the series to salvage game four 10-1. ESU was outhit 16-8 in the game as Mines led 2-1 after the second. The Orediggers added three runs in the third, single runs in the fifth and sixth, and three more in the seventh to pull away for the win. Hernandez was the only Hornet with multiple hits in the game. Seth Stover (1-1) lasted just 2.2 innings and allowed nine hits and five runs to take the loss. ESU committed four errors in the game leading to five unearned runs for Mines. ESU is 5-2 and returns to action Friday for a four-game series against Colorado State-Pueblo at the Trusler Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. Friday.
