A new project in one of Emporia’s most visited parks will provide more access to library materials in the near future.
Wednesday morning, Emporia City Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding with the Emporia Public Library for the construction of a new book locker in Peter Pan Park. Library Director Pauline Stachinni tells KVOE News the purpose of the book locker is to help residents traverse the library’s “static fixed hours” of access to in-building materials.
The locker will be available to all library patrons, with a valid library card, 24/7 according to Stachinni. She adds patrons with access to the locker can pick up much more than just books and movies.
Per its MOU with the library, the city of Emporia has agreed to pay for the electricity to the locker. Meanwhile, the library will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining the locker, shelter, security system and obtaining data service. Either party can terminate the agreement with at least six months’ written notice.
A timeline for the project is currently pending, however, Stachinni says they are hoping to have it complete and ready for use this coming winter.
