Kansas lawmakers continue mulling several bills designed to slow down fentanyl use and distribution.
Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard three bills with that general goal:
*Senate Bill 419 is designed to increase aggravated child endangerment penalties when there is bodily harm to a child and when a child is in different locations associated with fentanyl.
*Senate Bill 413 details criminal penalties for fentanyl distribution, especially when distributed by dosage unit or weight
*Senate Bill 414 would increase criminal penalties for unlawfully distibuting fentanyl-related drugs
Hearings for all three bills will take place Tuesday.
Fentanyl has been a hot policy topic for the last three years now, and it took on area significance after two Wabaunsee County deputies needed hospital treatment after suspected exposure during a custodial arrest last week.
