SOS, Bloom House and Gravel City Roasters gave area teenagers a chance to promote self-care and positive relationships during an event Saturday.
Teens could gather and make cards, either for themselves or others, as well as enjoy a drink from Gravel City. SOS Community Relations Coordinator Cara Codney says the event served several purposes in a 90-minute setting.
Bloom House Director Clara Corn says this was “a perfect collab” with SOS, in part because of the topic.
The event came in the middle of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says one in 12 US high school students have experienced physical dating violence and one in 12 have also experienced sexual dating violence, whether in person, online or through other technology. Physical violence, sexual violence, psychological aggression and stalking are all included.
SOS has a free help line available at 800-825-1295 or by texting SOSKS to 847411. The Bloom House drop-in shelter is available by calling 620-208-1199.
