The teenager accused of setting fire to the same Emporia business on two separate occasions last month will remain in detention until his next court appearance.
During a detention review hearing in Lyon County District Court Tuesday afternoon, it was decided that 17-year-old Justin Hines will remain at the Douglas County Detention Facility until February 27 at 2 pm when he will appear for a second detention review hearing and pretrial hearing. Hine’s continued stay in detention is due to the inability to find an alternative housing situation for him at this time.
According to legal counsel, Hines has no immediate family within the state of Kansas.
Hines was charged earlier this month after fires Jan. 17 and Jan. 22 that heavily damaged Moore’s Greenhouse outside Guion’s Showcase at 2023 West Sixth. The second fire also caused exterior damage to the northwest corner of the Guion’s Building. There were no reported injuries with either incident.
