No evacuations were needed and no injuries were reported after a gas line incident in a central Emporia neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
Emporia Fire and, later, Kansas Gas were called to the 800 blockc of Grove shortly before 3 pm. Firefighters say a contract crew hit a gas line outside 816 Grove.
Grove was closed at Walnut, thus allowing for Kansas Gas to investigate and for repairs to take place but also shutting off Grove just west of Walnut Elementary near the end of the school day and shortly before an afternoon of parent-teacher conferences. Parents were told to use Washington Street to pick up their children and to have patience because of the situation.
