Local residents are preparing to take the coolest plunge in Emporia this weekend.
The 2024 Polar Plunge supporting Special Olympics Kansas is taking place Saturday morning at Mouse Lake. Activities will begin with registration at 8:30 am at Stinger’s Sports Bar until 11 am.
Activities will then move to Mouse for the costume contest at 11:15 am followed by the main event at 11:30 am. Organizer Shelly Lutes says temperatures are expected to be around 40 degrees come plunge time which she believes will add to the event’s already “electric” atmosphere.
Lutes adds the event is truly a family affair for many. Wagner agreed saying it is an event she and her family look forward to with great anticipation each year.
Those interested in participating in the plunge can still register in person at Stingers or you can go online to soks.org/polar-plunge. The cost to participate is $50 per plunger.
If you do not want to participate in the plunge but would still like to contribute to the cause there are a few ways to do so. A biscuits and gravy breakfast will be served during registration Saturday with the cost being a free-will donation or you can donate online by visiting soks.org/polar-plunge.
