Emporia State women’s basketball coach Brian Ostermann has added one player to his first full recruiting class in Emporia. Jayla Cornelius from Blue Springs, Mo. will join the Lady Hornets for the 2024-25 season. Cornelius, a 5-8 guard, is currently averaging 22.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg for Blue Springs High School and is fourth in scoring in the Kansas City metro area this season. Cornelius has scored over 1200 points in her high school career. She joins four other high school seniors from Kansas including Emporia’s Addie Kirmer, Makenzie McDaniel from Silver Lake, Emma Mitchell of Rossville, and Elizabeth Tjaden of Clearwater, to form Coach Ostermann’s first high school recruiting class. The Lady Hornets are currently 10-13, 7-10 in the MIAA and travel to play Newman on Saturday.
