The Emporia High boys swim and dive team is set to send six to the Class 5-1A State Swim and Diving Championships that begin Thursday.
The first Spartan to compete will be Alex Allemang. Allemang is making his first trip to state in his senior year. Allemang said he does have some nerves heading into the meet.
Logan Woydziak will be swimming in four events, the 200-yard medley relay, the 50-yard freestyle and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Woydziak said he’s swimming his best heading into state, but still wants to be better in his final meet.
Broden Podrebarac will be swimming on the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Podrebarac said he’s seen improvement from his freshman and sophomore years to get him to this position now as a senior.
Also making it to state are Ian Navarro in the 200 free relay, and Tyler Luthi and Shane Anderson in the 200 medley and 200 and 400 free relays.
Emporia High coach Jamie Dawson said the Spartans should be comfortable competing in the state pool, a place where they’ve competed multiple times during the regular season.
Diving prelims and semifinals will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Swim prelims will take place at 9 a.m. Friday. Finals will start at 9 a.m. Saturday with diving followed by swim events. The Class 5-1A State Championships are being held in Topeka at Capitol Federal Natatorium.
