A former Emporia High Lady Spartan bowler accomplished a huge feat last weekend.
Kinsey Miller, a 2020 graduate of Emporia High and currently a senior at Baker University, won the Hoosier Classic which had 471 bowlers compete. Miller bowled a six-game total of 1,388 and averaged 231.3 per game. Her third and fourth games of the tournament were the highest with games of 278 and 279. Miller said the start of her season of taking second at the Mid States Classic was when she realized she could finish toward the top in bigger tournaments.
Miller said she was confident heading into the Hoosier after bowling in two smaller tournaments, where she placed third in both the Eagle Open and the NAIA West Tournament. Winning the Hoosier was a goal, but Miller said she had set another goal heading into the tournament.
Miller also got a taste of a bowling pattern that the professional bowlers during the tournament.
Miller was a first-team All-State selection as a senior at Emporia High and signed with Baker out of high school. Miller said she’s battled adversity during her collegiate career along with some injuries along the way. Miller said one of her memorable moments happened last year when Baker won their fourth consecutive Heart of America Conference Championship.
Miller has been named the Heart of America Conference Women’s Bowler of the Week twice on January 30th and February 6th. Miller does have one more year of eligibility left due to COVID but plans on attending Emporia State University to pursue her Master’s Degree.
Miller will next be in action for Baker at the Heart of America Conference Championships on February 24-25. The NAIA National Championships will be held March 21-23.
