The Emporia High boys wrestling team will have six qualifiers for next weekend’s Class 5A State Wrestling Championships.
Emporia High’s top placer at regionals in Arkansas City was freshman Gabe Wassom at 113 pounds. After losing to Valley Center’s Braxton Moody in the semifinals, Wassom bounced back with two wins including a 5-3 decision over Hays’ Elijah McCullough in the third place match. After losing to Andover Central’s Dawson Rodd in the semifinals, senior Josiah Bradley at 285 bounced back to take fourth. Bradley lost the third place match to Camden Jensen of Hutchinson by tiebreaker, 5-4.
Four Spartans placed seventh in their respective weight classes, Kolton Wyatt at 106, Isaiah Morales at 126, Dustin Dobson at 150 and Christian Trujillo at 157.
As a team, Emporia High finished 11th.
The Class 5A State Wrestling Championships begin Thursday at 9 a.m. at Hartman Arena in Park City.
