The Emporia State baseball team split a four-game series with Colorado State-Pueblo this weekend at the Trusler Sports Complex. The ThunderWolves struck first with a 6-1 win in game one on Saturday. Each team had seven hits but the Hornets left eight on base. The Hornets struck back against The Pack in game two in a 13-3 eight-inning run rule. After an early Pueblo score, the Hornets tallied seven in the bottom of the first and never trailed on the way to outhitting the visitors 17-7 in the game. Patryk Hernandez and Logan Myers each finished 4-for-5 with Myers nailing his second home run of the season on the way to five RBIs in the game. The Wolves nudged back in front in the series with a 9-2 win in game three by scoring eight of the game’s final nine runs over the last three innings. The Hornets earned a split with a 9-5 win in game four by breaking a five-all tie with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tanner Dawe (2-0) pitched four innings of scoreless relief while scattering three hits with five strikeouts. Kadyn Williams led the way offensively with a double, his first home run of the season, and three RBIs. ESU takes a 7-4 record on the road to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
