Thankfully, nobody was hurt after fire developed in a southeastern Emporia home Sunday evening.
Fire crews from Emporia, Americus and Olpe were dispatched to 105 South Exchange just before 9 pm. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says fire was obvious as they arrived.
Firefighters also took several pets out of the home without issue, including three dogs and a cat.
Steinlage says the cause was accidental and linked to the charcoal grill on the back deck. The fire mainly stayed on the exterior but did work inside the kitchen, creating an estimated $25,000 in damage.
