District Two Lyon County Commission incumbent Doug Peck will be seeking another term in office this election cycle and he will have at least one challenger to contend with.
Sid Morgan of Americus, a former 40-plus-year employee of the Lyon County Highway Department, filed for election to the district two seat this past Thursday, just a day before Peck filed his paperwork with the Lyon County Clerk’s Office. KVOE spoke with both individuals Monday to gain insight into their decisions to run for office.
Morgan tells KVOE News he has been asked to run and chose to do so as he feels Commissioner Peck has not adequately “represented” the people of Lyon County.
When asked his response to Morgan’s comments regarding his representation of the county, Peck stated “He has his ideas, I have mine. I think I’ve done a very good job for the people of Lyon County.” As for his decision to seek another term in office, Peck says the county has a lot of work ahead in the coming year, specifically when it comes to repairing its gravel road network, and he wants to see all of it through to fruition.
Also filing for re-election this past week was Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope. Back in late January both Lyon County Treasurer Sharon Gaede and Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss filed for re-election to their respective positions.
Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman announced earlier this month he will not be seeking another term in office after serving as the county’s lead prosecutor for the last 24 years. The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1.
The traditional primary election is Aug. 6, followed by the general election Nov. 5.
