The Kansas Turnpike Authority’s 2024 construction season includes numerous projects in and near Emporia.
The KTA plans to finish work on demolishing and reconfiguring lanes for the Emporia tollgate, mile marker 127, and the Cassoday tollbooth, mile marker 92, at some point between the end of July 2024 and mid-November 2025. This is part of a nearly $4.4 million contract to Dondlinger & Sons, which also involves tollgates at east Wichita, El Dorado and north El Dorado.
Redecking and widening a bridge at mile marker 125 southbound, as well as rehabilitating the bridge at mile marker 125 northbound, will continue this year. This is a $10.3 million project overseen by AM Cohron & Son.
Redecking and widening over Soldier Creek, mile marker 155 in Osage County, will also continue this year. AM Cohron won the project with a nearly $4 million bid.
Several projects are also planned between mile markers 140-143, between the Emporia service exit at mile marker 132 and the Admire-Council Grove tollgate at mile marker 147. Drainage improvements and pavement repairs are scheduled by December. Bettis Asphalt & Construction won the project with a $7.7 million bid.
The area projects coincide with the Turnpike Authority’s final push towards cashless tolling, which will go live this summer. They are part of 20 projects this year, reflecting nearly $58 million worth of investment by the KTA.
