An increase in wastewater fees may see approval by Emporia City Commissioners when they convene for their regular action and study meetings Wednesday morning.
Commissioners will consider an increase of 7.14 percent, approximately $3 for an average water consumption of 5,000 gallons. The reason for the increase is related to a significant decline in wastewater fund reserves to help cover the loan payments for the city’s wastewater treatment plant over the past several years.
Other action items will include awarding the city’s CCLIP project for surface preservation on US Highway 50 from Graphic Arts Road to Prairie Street to Killough Construction for $400,000. An ordinance to rezone property located at 612 East 7th Avenue from single-family detached to single-family attached and the appointment of members to the Emporia Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals will also see consideration.
When commissioners convene for their regular study meeting, discussions will revolve around the city’s year-end financial report, the burning of leaves in the city limits, a review of the transfer of Quaker Park to the Emporia Land Bank, a neighborhood revitalization area map update, an ordinance revising city code on weed and grass landscaping, KDHE MS4 NPDES permits and a civic leadership institute proposal. The meetings will begin with the action session at 11 am inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium before transitioning to city conference room 1AB for the study session.
