The Emporia High boys wrestling team is also sending six wrestlers to state that begins Thursday at Hartman Arena.
Two Spartans are making return trips to state. Junior Christian Trujillo is making a return trip to state at 157. Trujillo gave his key factor on what he needs to do better to improve from last year’s state appearance.
Senior Josiah Bradley is making a return trip to state at 285.
Four Spartans are making their first trips to state. One is freshman Gabe Wassom at 113. Wassom said he’s excited for the challenge.
Freshman Kolton Wyatt is going to state 106. Wyatt said he’s improved throughout the season after being a junior varsity wrestler to start the season.
Junior Dustin Dobson is making his first trip to state at 150. Dobson has battled adversity wrestling with diabetes in his first year back wrestling since eighth grade.
Junior Isaiah Morales is heading to state for the first time at 126. Morales said getting to state was tough, but he’s glad he gets to wrestle again this weekend.
Coach Brook Medrano said the Spartans just need to go out and finish the season strong.
