The Emporia High girls wrestling team will be sending six to the Class 6-5A State Championships that begins Thursday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
Senior Virginia Munoz is making her fourth trip to state. Munoz said she wanting to do something special in her final trip to state.
Senior Katina Keosybounheuang is making her second trip to state. Keosybounheuang said she wants to improve from her sixth-place performance last year.
Sophomore Kensley Medrano is making her second trip to state. Medrano said she’s confident heading to state for a second time.
Sophomore Alexa Castillo is making her second trip to state. Castillo said offseason work was big for her to get back to state.
Junior Heily Batres is making her first trip to state at 105. Batres said when she qualified for state, it was an emotional moment.
Sophomore Yaneli Carranza is making her first trip to state at 155. Carranza said this was one of her big goals especially with this being the second year she’s wrestled.
Coach Shawn Russell said he’s seen growth from his team throughout the season.
