The state of Kansas will have until mid-April to file paperwork related to the brutal winter weather from mid-January.
The Federal Emergency Management Association has given the state until April 15 to submit all the paperwork needed as the state assesses damage caused by occasional heavy snow, high winds and wind chills that reached almost -30 just in the KVOE listening area at times between Jan. 7-16.
The state is seeking a major federal disaster declaration. If approved, the state would get federal cost-share assistance through the Public Assistance program for damaged public infrastructure, including roads and bridges.
