Tuesday night’s alleged shots fired and pursuit incident has led to misdemeanor charges through Lyon County District Court.
Juan Medina Cervantes Jr has been charged with single counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm in the Emporia city limits, interference with law enforcement and possession of both marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He is set to begin his court process with a first appearance at 1:15 pm Thursday.
Cervantes, age 33 of Emporia, allegedly fired at least 10 rounds in central Emporia around 9 pm Tuesday. Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Neosho to begin their investigation, allegedly finding Cervantes in the area of the gunshots. Mattas says Cervantes allegedly fled but was found again and arrested. There were no reports of injuries or bullet-related damage as part of the investigation that followed.
