There’s a shortage of volunteers in the Emporia area looking to help children in need.
CASA is searching for new volunteers with a new class set to begin next week with an orientation session.
CASAs, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates, work with children impacted by sexual and/or domestic violence, abuse and neglect — often in the foster care system — to help judges determine how the children should get the medical, physical and mental wellness care they need. CASA of the Flint Hills Director Corina Sanchez says they want to connect with every child in the community that needs a person to advocate while they’re in foster care.
Sanchez says when going through the process, there’s things you might learn or even bring to the table that can help you with being a CASA.
Sanchez encourages people of all cultures, professions, ethnic and educational to become a CASA. Sanchez says everyone will get all the necessary training needed.
