The detours remain the same, but plans to start the demolition and construction process for Emporia’s Interstate 35 bridge over Lincoln Street have been delayed.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is now planning to start work on March 6 instead of Feb. 28. Reasons were not detailed.
The official detours have traffic using Coronado from Lincoln to Prairie on the north side of Interstate 35 and West 24th from Lincoln to Prairie on the south side.
Besides closing Lincoln Street at the bridge for the duration of the project, possibly through August 2025, this will also lead to temporary crossover lanes between northbound and southbound I-35. The inside lanes will be closed until April, with southbound lanes closing altogether and northbound lanes then open for one-lane, head-to-head traffic until further notice.
