The Emporia High Spartans will place three wrestlers at the 5A state tournament.
Junior Isiah Morales (126) and senior Josiah Bradley (285) were defeated in their championship semi-final matches, Morales 7-5 to Kolton McElwain of Goddard and Bradley 3-2 to Stephen Carroll of St. Thomas Aquinas. Both now move to the consolation semi-finals on Saturday morning.
Joining them is freshman Gabe Wassom who was 2-0 on day 2 winning his consolation matches 4-0 defeating Dawson Dunn of Piper and 5-0 defeating Gavin Munoz of Maize South. With a win in the consolation semis, Wassom, Morales, and Bradley will wrestle for third place. With a loss, they will wrestle for fifth.
Also in competition Friday was junior Christian Trujillo who won his first consolation match 3-1 defeating Evan Johnson of Shawnee Heights before losing to Joshua Berlin of Maize South 8-4 in the consolation quarter finals. Junior Dustin Dobson was 0-1 on the day losing 3-0 to Adrian Monaco of Kapaun Mt. Caramel in the consolation second round.
Trujillo finishes the tournament with a record of 2-2. Dobson finishes with a record of 1-2.
