Membership on the steering committee designed to set the direction for the Emporia Recreation Commission’s new or expanded public recreation center is being set, and USD 253 Emporia is now taking applications for people to join the board.
USD 253 says its appointees will “explore possibilities for renovating, expanding, or constructing new recreational facilities with the goal of improving the quality of life for community members.” We have the application link online with our story at KVOE.com.
The seven-member steering committee will include representatives of the school district, Rec Commission, city of Emporia and Lyon County. The Rec Commission has selected its vice chair, Aaron Trelc, and at-large appointee Deon Morrow. The city has chosen current city commissioners Susan Brinkman and Erren Harter, while Lyon County has picked former commissioner Scott Briggs for the board.
Once the membership is complete, the committee has been tasked with developing a Request for Proposal for architects developing plans for a new or expanded facility by mid-March.
