Seven area wrestlers placed at the girls Class 4-1A and the boys Class 3-2-1A state wrestling championships that wrapped up Saturday in Salina.
Chase County senior Kinzie Rogers’ shot a winning a state championship came just short as she fell by decision, 8-5, in the championship match at 110 pounds to Kenna Miles of Fort Scott. Rogers finished her season with a 37-2.
Burlingame had three place. On the boys side, Logan Courtois finished third at 132. Courtois pinned Ellsworth’s Will Donley for third place at 2:54 to finish the season with a 44-2 record. Chase Courtois at 106 took fifth at 106 winning the fifth place match by medical forfeit over Jayhawk-Linn’s Landon Higgins. Chase Courtois finished the season 34-16. On the girls side, Maliyah Lopez finished sixth at 105 and lost the fifth place match by medical forfeit against Clay Center’s Alissa Cowing. Lopez finished the season 18-4.
Chase County’s Micah Cauthers finished fifth at 190. Cauthers finished his high school career with a win by fall in 2:36 over Sabetha’s Dalton Rokey to finish the season with a 42-7 record.
Council Grove had two placers. Ace Monihen finished third at 190 and ended the season with a 3-1 victory over Luke Franklin of Smith Center to end the season 39-5. Bradley Doornbos finished fourth at 120. He finished his season with a 38-7 record after losing by a major decision, 9-1, to Denton White of Jayhawk-Linn in the third-place match.
