The Emporia State softball team has extended its winning streak to 14 in a row after picking up two wins on Saturday and Sunday at the Washburn Invitational in Topeka. On Saturday the Lady Hornets knocked off Augustana 3-2 after manufacturing a run in the top of the eighth inning. In their second game on Saturday, the Lady Hornets scored seven runs in the third on the way to a 9-1 five-inning run rule of Minnesota Crookston. Bailey Flewelling led the way going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. ESU kept the momentum going by pounding Maryville 15-0 in their first game on Sunday. ESU batted around to the tune of a 10-run third inning as the Saints committed five errors in the game. ESU capped off a 6-0 weekend with a 9-6 win against Sioux Falls. ESU jumped out to a 9-3 lead through four after plating five runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Cougars scored three in the fifth but couldn’t get any closer. Flewelling had a perfect game at the plate finishing 3-for-3 with two runs, and three RBIs after blasting her second home run of the year. The Lady Hornets have now run their record to 15-6 and open MIAA play by heading to Wichita Friday, March 8 to face Newman. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at NU Softball Field.
