Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh says an attempted vehicle stop led a pursuit that ended with two arrests in east Emporia on Tuesday.
Welsh says a deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on US Highway 50 near Strong City just after 9 am. Welsh also says the passenger, later identified as 33-year-old Brandy Rye of Wichita, had a warrant and was considered armed and dangerous. Meanwhile, the driver, identified as 25-year-old Fareed Hudeib of Wichita, fled, triggering a pursuit eastbound on US-50.
The driver allegedly avoided stop sticks just outside of Emporia and continued east on US-50, allegedly at a high rate of speed, according to Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope. Eventually, the vehicle stopped at Ninth and Lakeview, where the suspects fled northbound on foot.
About an hour later, Hudeib and Rye were found in a garage in the 900 block of Lakeview.
Formal charges are pending through the Chase County Attorney’s Office. Hudeib was arrested on suspicion of felony flee and elude, reckless driving, speeding, possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia, criminal trespass and “many other” traffic offenses. Rye was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia, criminal trespass and the Harvey County warrant.
