It was quick work for the Emporia High girls basketball team in its Class 5A Sub-State semifinal against Topeka West at Spartan Gymnasium.
Emporia High started the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back in a 65-35 victory over the Lady Chargers. The Lady Spartans led 18-7 at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 38-20 at halftime. Emporia High used a 23-3 third quarter to lead 61-23 heading into the fourth quarter, triggering a running clock in the final eight minutes.
Addie Kirmer led Emporia High with 23 points while Alexa Shivley added 10. Emporia High coach Carolyn Dorsey said the Lady Spartans came out and took care of business.
Emporia High’s winning streak is now at 18 while its record is 20-1. The Lady Spartans will host Great Bend at 5 p.m. Saturday in the sub-state championship game. The RV-Doc Pregame Show begins at 4:40 p.m. Saturday on KVOE.
