Three area wrestlers are set to wrestle in the inaugural Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Kansas Shrine Duals next month.
Emporia High’s Virginia Munoz and Chase County’s Micah Cauthers and Kinzie Rogers will wrestle in the event. Munoz will be on the girls’ East squad and will take on Ellis’ Kaydawn Haag in one of two matches at 143 pounds. Cauthers will represent the West squad on the boys’ side and will wrestle Caleb Sharp of Olathe Northwest in one of two matchups at 197. Rogers will wrestle Rossville’s Keera Lacock at 116 for the girls West squad.
Munoz capped off her career with over 100 career wins and placed sixth at 140 in the Class 6-5A State Wrestling Championships. Cauthers finished fifth at 190 in the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Championships. Rogers finished second at 110 in the 4-1A State Wrestling Championships.
The Kansas Shrine Duals will take place on Sunday, March 17 at Fugate Gymnasium on the campus of Newman University in Wichita. Opening ceremonies will start at 3:15 p.m. with gates for the event set to open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at KansasShrineDuals.com.
The Kansas Shrine Duals were created thanks to the KWCA and the Kansas Shrine Bowl to create a senior all-star event for a cause. Just like the Kansas Shrine Bowl, which will be played at Welch Stadium on Saturday, June 29, the Kansas Shrine Duals will look to create the same level of awareness and impact to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
