Work is less than three weeks away on a major road project just west of Emporia.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says work to pave Road F between US Highway 50 north to Road 180 will begin the week of March 18. Work will include paving the gravel road, but it will also include grading, storm sewer and a 10-foot wide hike-and-bike path. This will convert the two-lane gravel road into a three-lane curb-and-gutter asphalt street, helping to make the west side of Industrial Park IV shovel-ready for future development.
Torrens says the project should last into fall. Road F will be closed from US-50 to Road 180 to thru traffic, including the intersections. All phases of construction — storm sewer, grading, curb and gutter, street pavement and markings — will impact local traffic. There will also be detours as the project continues.
Road 180 west of Evergy’s new regional service center is currently gravel, while the road from the facility east to Americus Road is paved. Torrens says paving the west half of Road 180 between F and G will be handled as part of a separate project.
