The area fire danger will be elevated Friday and Saturday, but it may well be critical to extreme Sunday.
The National Weather Service has already announced a fire weather watch for Sunday involving Chase and Greenwood counties. High temperatures approaching 80 degrees will combine with south winds gusting as high as 30-45 mph, increasingly dry grasses and relative humidity levels as low as 15 percent.
Fire weather watches often lead to red flag warnings, which would mean automatic burn bans for the affected counties. Outdoor burning may well be strongly discouraged even in counties that do not have fire weather watches or red flag warnings.
