For the third consecutive year, the Emporia High girls basketball team is heading back to the Class 5A State Tournament at White Auditorium.
On Saturday, the Lady Spartans punched their ticket to state with a 59-26 victory over Great Bend.
Great Bend scored the first four points of the game before Emporia High scored the next seven points to take the lead and never gave it up for the remainder of the game. Emporia High led 15-6 at the end of one and 32-15 at halftime. The Lady Spartans led 49-24 at the end of the third and triggered a running clock in the final five minutes of the game.
Three players scored in double figures led by Addie Kirmer with 17 points. Emeil Bennett added 13 and Lexsey Dewitt tallied 10. Emporia High coach Carolyn Dorsey said the Lady Spartans were focused.
Emporia High is now 21-1 on the season, winners of 19 consecutive games, is the No. 3 seed and will play on Thursday at 8 p.m. against Bishop Carroll at White Auditorium.
