The 35th annual Emporia Lions Club Biscuits and Gravy breakfast will go into the record books.
That’s according to Lions Club President Tammy Edmiston who says attendance and support for this year’s fundraiser was stronger than it has ever been Saturday morning.
Along with enjoying scratch-made biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit and beverages, attendees also had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy some conversation and fellowship with their friends and neighbors. Edmiston says the sense of community that accompanies the event each year is a major piece of what has made it such a success for the last three-plus decades.
The biscuits and gravy breakfast is the club’s largest annual fundraising event with proceeds set to support many of their programs and initiatives throughout the calendar year. Final totals are currently pending.
The biscuits and gravy breakfast comes with applications for the Cleve Cook Emporia Lions Club Fund now open. The fund provides varying grant awards for projects and organizations that help to make a “positive, long-term impact in Lyon County” specifically related to the agricultural sector. The application deadline is April 26 with applications available through the Emporia Community Foundation’s website Emporiacf.org and the Lions Club’s Facebook page.
A little more than $30,000 in grants are available this year. Since its creation, the Cleve Cook Fund has provided well over $190,000 for local projects.
