For the third time in less than a week, outdoor burning is banned for at least part of the KVOE listening area.
In Sunday’s case, all area counties — and the eastern half of Kansas — is in a red flag warning for critical fire danger. High temperatures will reach 80 degrees or slightly higher by mid-afternoon. Wind speeds will be 20-40 mph all day. Relative humidity levels, which were near 80 percent around sunrise, will drop to around 15 percent. Grasses have been drying since our last rainfall Feb. 4.
This follows an areawide red flag warning Tuesday and a warning for most area counties, including Lyon County, on Thursday. Area counties have passed resolutions banning outdoor burns when red flag warnings are active.
Conditions will improve somewhat Monday, but outdoor burns will likely be discouraged through at least Tuesday. Rainfall becomes likely Wednesday night through Thursday night.
