The Emporia State baseball teams swept Upper Iowa with a pair of 12-0 wins at the Trusler Sports Complex this week.
The Emporia State baseball team bounced back from a series loss this weekend with a 12-0 run-rule of Upper Iowa on Monday afternoon. ESU jumped on top 2-0 after the second before unloading for 10 runs in the fourth inning. Upper Iowa struggled to find the strike zone as two runs were walked in by the Peacocks before hitting a Hornet batter to allow another run. A Dom Oliverio single scored two before a sac fly added another run. Konner Hatfield capped the scoring with a two run-single. Oliverio finished 3-for-3 in the game with 2 RBI’s. Dylan Brisbois, Logan Myers, and Drew Jennings all had multiple hit games for ESU. Seth Stover (3-1) lasted six innings scattering three hits for the shutout win.
The Hornets backed up the Monday victory with another 12-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Hornets started even quicker in game two with a five-run first inning with a two-run double by Austin Hamm and a bases-clearing triple by Joe Daneff. A Daneff single plated two more in the fourth and Brisbois knocked in another run to make it 8-0 E-State. After a sacrifice scored a run in the fifth, the Black & Gold tallied three more times in the sixth scoring on two Peacock wild pitches and a Jackson Truman pinch-hit RBI single. The Hornets outhit Upper Iowa 11-2 in the game using Graham Brunner as an opener throwing one shutout inning with one strike out. Greg Ross (1-1) picked up the win by scattering two hits in five innings with six strikeouts. Daneff finished 2-for-2 for ESU with 3 runs, five RBIs and two walks. The Hornets improve to 12-8 on the year and return to action Friday for a three-game series at Missouri Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
