As local residents made their way inside of Albert Taylor Hall for the Emporia Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Peter and the Wolf” Tuesday night, they were met at the doors by some very special greeters.
Leadership and volunteers of the Humane Society of the Flint Hills were on hand with several of the Emporia Animal Shelters’ canine residents. The reason for their presence was the evening’s event was serving as a benefit for the Humane Society collecting donations for the agency throughout the evening.
Humane Society Director Stephanie Achille says they are thrilled that other organizations, such as ESO, are reaching out to help promote the society’s presence and mission.
Achille says having their canine companions on hand for the event allowed many residents to interact with the pups in a more free environment.
Donation totals from Tuesday night are currently pending. The evening’s concert is just the start of upcoming fundraising efforts by the Humane Society which will be launching its inaugural Auction for the Animals via its social pages next week.
Information on the auction, including a list of items, can be found on the Humane Society of the Flint Hills Facebook page. The auction will go live on Sunday.
The Humane Society is still accepting donations of items or services that can be added to the auction block. If you are interested in contributing contact the Emporia Animal Shelter by calling 620-340-6345 or stop the shelter at 1216 Hatcher during normal business hours.
