The Lady Hornets led wire-to-wire in a 72-58 victory over Northeastern State in the first round of the MIAA Tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. on Wednesday. E-State jumped out to a 13-0 run to begin the game before NSU responded with 11 straight points to cut the deficit to two. ESU settled for a 19-14 lead after the first and then used a 10-2 run to take a double-digit lead in the second quarter and a 39-29 lead into halftime. The Lady Hornets scored eight straight to start the third frame and the RiverHawks never got within single digits again. Katie Horyna poured in a career high with 25 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field and matched her career high of two 3-pointers. Faith Paramore scored 21 points with 10 rebounds for her 13th double-double. Head coach Brian Ostermann said the great start allowed ESU to settle in early.
