The Lebo boys need to hold off a late charge by Northern Valley Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A-Division II State Tournament at Barton Community College in Great Bend.
Lebo led by as many as 15 in the second half and held off the Huskies, 59-56. Lebo led throughout the game and led 19-15 at the end of the first quarter and 32-21 at halftime. Lebo led 36-21 before Northern Valley closed the third quarter on an 18-6 run to pull within three, 42-39, heading to the fourth quarter. Northern Valley tied the game on two separate occasions in the final two minutes. Dominic Risner made two free throws with 10 seconds left to extend the lead to three with Northern Valley missing a 3-pointer as the clock expired.
Lebo had four players in double figures led by Zach Oswald’s double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Grayson Shoemaker added 18 and Drew Konrade and Risner each had 10. Lebo coach Dennis Becker said the Wolves found a way to win a tough game in the month of March.
Lebo improved to 17-7 with the win and will face Axtell at 6 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the 1A-Division II State Tournament at Barton Community College. You can listen to the game on Country 101.7 FM with the Mel’s Tire Pregame Show starting at 5:40 p.m.
