President Joe Biden and Republicans have clashed a lot during his term in office, and they are clashing again after his State of the Union address.
The president has been hit repeatedly for alleged inaction on immigration and specifically border security with Mexico, but he championed the bipartisan border bill that recently introduced in Congress and roundly rejected by many Republicans.
The president also spent time pledging support to Ukraine and reproductive rights, as well as adjusting the tax structure to put more burden on wealthy Americans and corporations. He also launched into former president Donald Trump indirectly on several occasions, notably on the Jan. 6 insurrection, saying, “you can’t love your country only when you win.”
Republicans, including those representing Kansas, were dismissive. Senator Roger Marshall said, “there is no amount of ‘spin’ Joe Biden can give that will hide the damage he’s done to our nation: destroying a recovering economy, a secure border, and an energy-independent nation.” Senator Jerry Moran called the president “derelict” in his response to the southern border crisis and faulted “Bidenomics” for higher prices due to federal spending. Congressman Jake LaTurner said Biden’s presidency has led to three years of American decline, adding “Kansans deserve better than to be gaslit by their Commander-in-Chief.”
