The Emporia State softball team was outscored 16-1 overall on the way to a doubleheader sweep at the hands of #12 Central Oklahoma on Sunday in Edmond, Okla. The Bronchos started the day with a 6-0 win in game one. UCO outhit the Lady Hornets just 11-9 but ESU stranded 12 runners on base compared to just 5 for Central. ESU loaded the bases with just one out in the fifth but couldn’t score. Abbey Ward and Avery Brewer each finished 2-for-4. Central Oklahoma left no doubt in game two with a 10-1 run-rule victory in five innings. After the teams traded early runs, the ‘Chos scored five in the second and four in the third to jump on top by the final margin. The Lady Hornets were outhit by just two again but the Bronchos had five extra-base hits in the game, including two home runs, to the Hornets’ one double. McKensy Glass went 2-for-2 in game two for ESU. ESU falls to 16-9 and 1-3 in ‘the Association’ and returns to action for a midweek doubleheader against Drury Wednesday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.
