The USD 253 Emporia Board of Education has a special meeting ahead Tuesday evening.
The meeting revolves around the contract and employment status of Emporia High debate coach Adam Moore, who initially had his contract announced as terminated in January.
On Tuesday, board members will consult with an attorney first before considering a tentative resolution for final action. A second executive session regarding what’s called Article 10 of the Negotiated Agreement before executive sessions on personnel and attorney consultation. A second conversation on a resolution for final action will follow.
After the board voted in January to terminate Moore’s contract effective Feb. 29, Moore requested a hearing before the board. A document posted to the district website, usd253.org, indicates the district is at least considering the suspension of its prior decision to end Moore’s contract, thus reinstating Moore “in full force and effect” if there is no other action from the board.
Aside from a comment saying the board believes it has afforded Moore all due process as required by law while acknowledging a “prolonged legal dispute” can be avoided with the hearing, the statement makes no comment on why reinstatement is being considered. The district does not comment on personnel matters.
The meeting is at 6 pm at Mary Herbert Education Center. The district will livestream the meeting on usd253.org.
