Who has the best Main Street in the United States?
A group of national economists and economic development experts says Emporia is in the conversation, and as such has been nominated for the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Award.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says this reflects the breadth of scope when it comes to Main Street’s work locally.
Emporia is one of 20 Main Streets to be nominated, with other cities including Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Grand Junction, Colorado; and Scottsdale, Arizona.

USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards process has chosen Emporia as a Best Main Street nominee.
USA TODAY says the honor’s focus is to “celebrate towns with great shops and restaurants along their town’s main street and a strong sense of hometown pride.”
Main Street was nominated and won this contest in 2016. Director Casey Woods says the nomination comes after input from a national panel of economists and other economic development experts. He also says it signifies Main Street’s broad realm of work in economic development, regional to international events and other activities.
Now that nominations have been announced, a four-week public voting process is currently underway through April 8. Click here for the link.
