A pair of notable projects are nearing the finish line for the Emporia City Engineering Department.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday, City Engineer Jim Ubert said the Peyton Street waterline improvement project could well be done by late March or early April.
The project has been installing new water pipe along East 12th to Peyton, as well as Peyton from 12th to Sixth and South Avenue from Peyton to Carter. Ubert says the earlier pipe ranged from three to 12 inches in diameter, so going to a uniform 16-inch-equivalent line was needed to stabilize water flow between the city water towers near 12th and East and near South and Carter.
Meanwhile, work is ending soon for the Mechanic Steet 600 block renovation project.
Bases for light poles could be built within the next two weeks, with streetlight installation following.
The 700 block parking lot was completely repaved, with work finishing early this year. Temporary striping is up now.
