There had been a power outage for the Emporia State softball team. Going into game two of their doubleheader against Drury, the Lady Hornets had scored just two runs in their last three games as part of a four-game losing streak. That came to an end in game two against the Panthers. E-State split with Drury losing 3-1 in game one but coming back with a 6-3 win in game two. Drury never trailed in game one jumping on top 2-0 in the third. An Emma Furnish single in the fourth scored ESU’s lone run of the game. ESU left seven on base in the game while striking out seven times. Emporia State fell behind 2-0 again in game two before plating a run in the second. Drury went back up by two with a run in the fifth when ESU broke through with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Bailey Flewelling finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI in game two and spoke after the game about helping the team break through offensively.
Assistant coach Megan Hill said it was great to get back in the win column.
Jayda VanAckeren (5-2) went the distance in the circle for the Lady Hornets allowing five hits and three runs but none were earned. ESU returns to action hosting Northeastern State on Friday. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m.
